The colour you can see that does NOT exist...

We've spent some time during this On Point experience talking about colour because colour is so intimately tied to wide format print and how we visually communicate in an efficient manner. We've explored colour space in digital and analog communication, perception of colour in the human eye, and even the monetary value of colour, but today, we're going to explore the one colour that does not technically exist.

Beware the Multi‐Layer PDF

Ahhhh, the humble PDF document. For most of us, it's as simple as an invoice or a brochure, or sometimes a notice of some upcoming event with all the details. We receive it, we click it, and it opens in our Acrobat Reader in all its glory, regardless of the platform we're working on be it, Windows, MAC, iOS or Android.

Choosing Between Dye and Pigmented Inks

Ink is so much more than just the colour that is ejected onto the paper from our plotters and print devices to give our digital creations an analog life. When shopping for a plotter, it is important for an end user to understand fully how they want to use the analog output in order to select the correct device that utilizes the optimum ink type.

Printer Security: Take a multi-layered approach

In today’s world of cyber intrusion, malware, and ransomware, it is more important than ever to approach the concept of network security in layers much like an onion. Gone are the days of simply installing virus protection and a firewall and thinking that our IT infrastructure is secure. As diligent as we are in protecting our networks, cyber criminals are equally persistent and dedicated to finding new and creative ways to penetrate our defences. Peripherals have become the target entry point of choice in today’s world because they lay behind the shield of the trusted firewall. Whether it's via an infected USB key, a NAS device, or in the example below, the venerable office printer sitting on every floor of every office in corporate Canada.
